Art and Crafts for teaching Japanese
Various arts and crafts, websites and ideas for being creative in the Japanese classroom.
Activities in class
Sumo wrestling skirts (Kesho-mawashi)
Using calico fabric, cut out an A3 size "skirt" and add a waste band (about 8 cm wide) so it wraps around the students' waists. Using fabric markers, students design an appropriate image onto the skirt - similar to the Yokozuna Sumo Wrestling champions. Cut strips of paper in diagonal shapes to attach to the skirt. Use double sided velcrove/tape to attach them across the front of the skirt - 4 - 6 strips is enough. Once the skirts are finished, students wear them while prentending to do the clapping and stamping routine performed before the sumo match. Donated by C. Lam |
